Acanthus spinosus

Compact bear's breech with deeply serrated, spiny foliage to 2' high and 4' wide. Tall flower stalks with purple/white/green flowers rise to 4' in summer. Plant in light shade. More tolerant of heat and sun than other Acanthus. Give good drainage and average water. Drought tolerant once established. Feed with all purpose fertilizer during the growing season. Deer resistant. Deciduous in winter where hard freezes occur. USDA zone 6 in cold hardiness.
