Acer palmatum 'Atropurpureum'
Deciduous small tree to around 20' tall and wide with dark purple/red foliage. As this line of trees are seedlings of Acer p. 'Bloodgood' there is variability in leaf type, shape, and color, but in general it grows like a bloodgood at 1/3 the price. And since they are not grafted but seedlings, there is the additional advantage of not worrying about suckers or graft problems. Easy to grow. Plant in full sun to part shade (high shade). Give average water and good drainage. Fall color tends to be red with some orange highlights. USDA zones 5-9 in cold hardiness.
