Chionanthus retusus

Deciduous flowering tree to 20' producing frilly white flowers that cover the tree in late spring. Tends to grow bushy and low branched but can be trained with effort into a typical tree form. Branching and bark are interesting in winter. Female trees produced showy black berries that are attractive to birds. Plant in full sun. Give good drainage and average water. Easy to grow. Heat tolerant. Few pests. USDA zones 5-9 in cold hardiness.
