Chionanthus virginicus
Deciduous flowering tree to 15-20' producing frilly creamy white flowers that cover the tree in late spring/early summer. With effort can be trained as a small tree but tends to grow as a large sprawling bush if left unchecked. Female trees produce large black fruit in fall similar to olives that are highly attractive to birds. Plant in full sun. Give good drainage and average water. Native to the eastern US. Fall color is yellow. USDA zones 3-9 in cold hardiness.
