Stylophorum diphyllum

Deciduous Appalachian native poppy with interesting deeply lobed gray-green leaves to 12" followed by 1" bright yellow poppies starting in March and lasting well into the summer. Native as an understory flower in dense hardwood forests. Likes average to ample moisture, good drainage, and lots of organic matter. Can reseed and form large colonies. Plant in shade. Easy to grow. Few pests. USDA zones 4-8 in cold hardiness.
